Receptra Targeted Topical Review

info on receptra targeted topical

We tested the 1.25 oz, 400+ mg version of the Targeted Topical offered by Receptra Naturals.

We review CBD topicals by the quality of their hemp content, CBD concentration, product packaging, ingredients, scent and texture, value, and effectiveness.

Let’s start with the quality of the hemp extract in Receptra’s Targeted Topical.

Receptra Naturals’ Hemp Quality

Receptra makes their hemp extract using the hemp flower, which is a unique move in the industry since most companies make their oil from the stalk and leaves.

Using the flower is expensive since it requires a more labor-intensive process to harvest.

However, it’s worth the effort since the flower is the richest part of the hemp plant in cannabinoids and terpenes, the compounds that give CBD products their therapeutic benefits.

“We exist because we want to help people break down barriers and reach their full potential for a more fulfilling life. This promise starts with committing to a product standard from the very beginning, literally when our team plants seeds in the soil,” said Josh Richman, Chief Marketing Officer at Receptra. “We use Hemp Flower extract exclusively in all Receptra products and we avoid using stems, seeds and other lower quality by-products of the plant. This is not the cheapest or easiest way to make full spectrum extracts, but to make the best you have to commit and start with the best.”

After sourcing their hemp material, Receptra uses ethanol to extract the oil.

Ethanol extraction is a safe method that preserves the cannabinoid and terpene profile of the flower, producing potent and pure products.

Receptra also offers third-party lab results about the concentrations and safety of their products.

Concentration

The baseline for the Targeted Topical is 400 mg of cannabinoids per 1.25 ounces.

According to the certificate of analysis for this product, CBD accounts for 435 mg alone.

At 320 mg/oz, this topical features a high concentration in comparison with other topicals intended for occasional aches and discomfort.

Most of these kinds of topicals range from 100 mg/oz – 200 mg/oz; however, some products can go as high as 500 mg/oz and as low as 40 mg/oz.

With that in mind, Receptra’s Targeted Topical packs plenty of potency as one of the more strongly concentrated topicals available.

Value

The 400+ mg, 1.25 oz version of the Targeted Topical retails for $39.95, which clocks in at $0.10/mg and $31.96/oz.

Typically, topicals for relief fall in a range of $0.10/mg – $0.25/mg. Some products can get as high as 50 cents per mg and even more.

Receptra’s high concentration in the Targeted Topical keeps the price low in this category.

Regarding price per ounce, these topicals usually run $20/oz – $35/oz. Some can be significantly lower (e.g., items offering 2 or more ounces of product), while others can go much higher (e.g., items offering around 1 ounce or less of product).

The Targeted Topical sits on the higher end of this range, but it is more than competitive considering its CBD content and high-quality hemp extract.

The 800+ mg, 2.5 oz topical is more cost efficient at $68.95 ($0.086/mg and $27.58/oz), so if you intend on using this product often, the larger version is your best option.

Packaging

The Targeted Topical comes in a 1 oz white, plastic jar with a white, plastic screw-top lid.

The labeling includes the ingredient list and “suggested use” information on the top and bottom of the jar in earthy, green and brown tones.

Like all other Receptra products, the topical has a green label sticker, in this case on the bottom of the jar.

This green label will provide access to a product’s certificate of analysis on Receptra’s testing page.

Ingredients

Here is the ingredient list for the Receptra Targeted Topical: Shea Butter, Shorea Butter, Coconut Oil, Mango Butter, Beeswax, Emulsifying Wax, Jojoba Oil Infused with Hemp Extract, Camphor, Vitamin E Oil, Arnica Oil, Jasmine, and Ylang-Ylang.

All of the ingredients in the Targeted Topical are excellent, but there are some—in addition to CBD—that make this product especially effective for its intended purpose.

These ingredients are arnica oil, beeswax, and ylang-ylang.

Arnica oil is known to help heal bruises, reduce swelling, and alleviate soreness.

Beeswax, a common ingredient in skin care products for its moisturizing capability, can also promote relief from discomfort according to research from the “Korean Journal of Internal Medicine.”

Coming from the Cananga odorata, a plant found in the Philippines and Indonesia, ylang-ylang can alleviate aches and discomfort, too.

Scent and Texture

The topical smells mostly like camphor, which can have a strong aroma, but it’s not overbearing in this product.

After applying, the scent becomes hardly noticeable.

The texture is firm and slightly grainy, but a couple of seconds of warming it with your finger will make the topical easy to use.

Once it’s warm, the topical’s contents spread easily and leave a mild greasiness.

Effectiveness

We used the Targeted Topical to test its effects on occasional aches, soreness, and skin irritation.

We applied the topical as often as we experienced the various kinds of discomfort listed above.

Typically, the effects seemed to last around 3 or more hours.

Occasional Aches

Our team members experience occasional aches in any number of areas on the body.

Rubbing on a generous amount of the topical completely relieved the discomfort within about 15 minutes.

The soothing aroma itself also seems to promote relaxation and relief.

One member of our team has aches, especially in his knee.

Upon using the Targeted Topical, he found relief and gained full mobility.

Recovery

We used the topical immediately after performing leg exercises that significantly worked the calf muscles.

We also applied it the day after exercising.

When we applied the topical the day after exercise, it relieved soreness by about 50% for a few hours.

However, the total recovery time did not seem to dissipate any quicker than it would have without treatment.

Irritation

We tested the topical on bug bites and found great relief.

Applying just a small amount to the area immediately soothed the itching and discomfort.

It also seemed to help the healing process and reduced swelling.

Conclusion

Like with a lot of their other products, Receptra impressed our team with their Targeted Topical.

Receptra’s process for producing hemp extract is stellar, and it shows in this topical’s many benefits, including potentially alleviating occasional aches, aiding recovery, and soothing irritation.

On top of its effectiveness, the topical smells wonderful, it doesn’t leave skin feeling greasy, and is offered at an affordable price.

Taken all together, we strongly recommend that you try Receptra’s Targeted Topical.
