Lamar Odom, the former Lakers star forward, has started selling CBD vape pens. In 2015, Odom overdosed on crack cocaine, sending him into a coma where he had 12 strokes and six heart attacks. While in recovery, Odom found out about certain strains of cannabis that could help him get healthy. Now after seeing what it did for him, Odom wants to help others experience cannabis wellness, too.

Lamar Odom Selling CBD Vape Pens

Former Lakers forward and now cannabis entrepreneur Lamar Odom is coming out with a line of CBD vape pens.

Odom’s Rich Soil Organics has partnered with Five Star Juice—a California-based company specializing in e-liquid—to create the disposable pens.

According to TMZ, the vape pens have sold out in pre-orders.

Research has shown that CBD may help reverse drug addiction, more specifically in preventing relapses.

The former NBA star created Rich Soil Organics in 2015 after he had a life-threatening drug overdose that put him in a coma.

While in the coma, Odom revealed he had 12 strokes and six heart attacks.

During rehab, Odom did some digging on how he could become healthier.

“While going through rehab, I discovered certain strains that support wellness,” Odom said in an interview with The Blast in April 2018. “Friends, associates, and ex-teammates asked me what solutions I was using on my road back to recovery, and that’s when Rich Soil Organics was born.”

Now Odom wants to help others experience the benefits of cannabis for themselves.

“It’s a perfect time to offer these cannabis solutions to the public who may be going through similar body issues as I am,” Odom said in the interview.

Odom is joined by other athletes who have stepped into the cannabis scene recently, including boxing legend Mike Tyson and NFL Hall of Famer Joe Montana.

Montana’s motivation behind investing in a California cannabis company was similar to Odom’s reasoning for starting Rich Soil Organics.

The former QB believes the plant, “can provide relief to many people and can make a serious impact on opioid use or addiction.”

Montana’s statement is backed by research, which has shown that CBD may help reverse drug addiction, more specifically in preventing relapses.

CBD and Drug Addiction

There is a growing body of studies on the effects of CBD and how it interacts with drugs, particularly addictive drugs.

Research shows that CBD affects drug addiction behavior through several mechanisms.

In a 2017 review of scientific literature, British and Brazilian researchers found that CBD could attenuate (reduce the force of) drug memory expression.

Essentially, this means that CBD could help patients reduce their dependence on drugs by breaking the association between drugs and rewarding stimulus.

Another study, by the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, found that CBD can inhibit the desire for heroin by interacting with the 5-HT1A receptors.

The researchers concluded, “the observations of this study suggest the potential for CBD as a treatment strategy given its specificity to attenuate cue-induced drug-seeking behavior.”

While more research is necessary to confirm these effects, CBD seems to have promising treatment potential for drug addiction.
