For this CBDfx vape pen review, we tested four flavors from the brand’s Terpene Vape Pen line. CBDfx has quickly become one of the largest CBD brands in the industry, precisely because of innovative and popular products like these. The pens contain a small amount of CBD with a proprietary blend of terpenes that produce unique flavors. While we believe CBDfx can make some minor improvements, there’s plenty to like about them.

Be sure to take advantage of our CBDfx coupon code, which we’ve negotiated exclusively for our audience.

Here are some highlights from the vape pens:

CBDfx Vape Pen Review

overview of cbdfx vape pen review

We tested the CBDfx Terpene Vape Pens, a version of CBDfx’s vape pen line that contains specific terpene strains.

The pens contain full-spectrum hemp extract with 50mg of CBD and added terpenes.

We review CBD vape pens by the quality of their hemp material, CBD concentration, pen quality, ingredients, effectiveness, and value.

Let’s start with the quality of the hemp extract in CBDfx’s vape pens.

CBDfx Hemp Quality

CBDfx uses Kentucky-grown hemp from a farm that has been licensed by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

The hemp is grown organically, and several tests are conducted throughout the cultivation process to ensure purity in both the soil and plants.

After the hemp is harvested, it is brought to an FDA-registered facility that meets current Good Manufacturing Practice standards and is inspected by the FDA.

CBDfx only uses CO2 to extract oil from the hemp.

CO2 is widely considered the gold standard in extraction methods because it produces, arguably, the purest oil.

After the products are formulated, CBDfx uses ProVerde Laboratories and Biocann Laboratories to test every single batch of their products.

Both ProVerde Laboratories and Biocann Laboratories are ISO-17025 accredited.

The lab reports show results for cannabinoid potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, microbes, terpene profiling, and mycotoxins.

All third-party test results are available directly on CBDfx’s website.

Concentration

The CBDfx Terpene Vape Pens contain 50mg of CBD per pen and about 25-45mg of terpenes, depending on the flavor.

According to the third-party results for our specific pens, they all were within 0.5mg of the 50mg CBD threshold and differed in their terpene profiles.

This seems like a relatively small amount of CBD for a vape pen, since pens from Social CBD (formerly, Select CBD) and CBDistillery, contain 200mg or more.

Despite the low concentration, we still found the pens to be effective, so we can’t complain much here.

However, one potential issue we found is that while these pens are said to contain full-spectrum hemp extract, the only cannabinoid that the third-party results detected was CBD.

While full-spectrum hemp is about more than cannabinoids, we would expect to see some of the minor cannabinoids register during lab testing.

Based off of our experience with the pens, we would like to see CBDfx create a version with a higher dosage.

Value

CBDfx charges $19.99 per vape pen, which comes out to $0.400/mg.

For the amount of CBD, this is an expensive pen, but in the overall vape pen market, CBDfx is one of the more affordable options.

CBDistillery, a brand well-known for affordable prices, charges about $30 for their vape pens while Social CBD pens are priced at $25-$40.

These brands contain 4 or 5 times the amount of CBD as CBDfx, which is the reason behind the price discrepancy.

If 50mg plus a medley of terpenes is what you need to achieve your desired results, then CBDfx has the vape pens for you.

If you need a little more, then you might want to look elsewhere.

Packaging

All of CBDfx’s Terpene Vape Pens come in small rectangular packaging that is color-coded depending on the type of flavor.

The labeling provides an ingredient list, a QR code to access third-party test results, and information about CBDfx.

As for the device itself, it’s a typical disposable pen, wrapped up in a white and gold color scheme.

The mouthpiece is plastic and also comes with a silicone cap to cover the mouthpiece when it’s not in use.

The end of the pen will light up when in use.

Our only complaint with the pens is that you can’t tell how much oil is left.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients for the CBDfx Terpene Vape Pen: Propylene Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin, Proprietary Blend of Natural Terpenes and Cannabidiol (CBD).

One of the concerns in the vape pen ingredients is propylene glycol.

Preliminary research shows that if it’s heated too high, propylene glycol could produce a known carcinogen called formaldehyde.

CBDfx reassured us that the pens are temperature controlled to limit that possibility.

Flavors

The flavor of each pen is noticeable, but not overbearing.

OG Kush has an earthy and herbal taste, Pineapple Express is fruity and sweet, Platinum Rose is also sweet with a hint of eucalyptus, and Gelato has a variety of flavors, including citrus and hops.

While we enjoyed all the flavors, Gelato was our team’s favorite flavor as it was the least sweet-tasting flavor.

Effectiveness

We tested the CBDfx Terpene Vape Pens for their effects on discomfort, energy, relaxation, and sleep.

Interestingly, although the pens have different terpene profiles, we did not observe any discernible difference in the benefits of the vape pens.

Perhaps other people will notice more nuanced effects, but our team did not.

We look at this as both a positive and negative.

It’s a negative because it would be great to have a pen that you go to help you sleep or perk you up; however, it’s also useful for them to have the same level of efficacy because it allows you to try different flavors without sacrificing a specific benefit.

We also think that the efficacy of all the pens could be improved if CBDfx were to increase the dosage.

Here are our findings:

Discomfort

One of the best benefits the vape pens had was alleviating discomfort.

In general, the vape pens seemed helpful during headaches.

A member of our team also used the vape pen while he had a head cold.

Using a pen helped him feel better by relieving sinus pressure and calming anxiety.

It took about 5-10 draws to feel the effects.

Energy

The vape pens were also a useful pick-me-up.

Specifically, using a vape pen in the afternoon when we felt tired helped us keep going.

The pens also slightly improved our focus and helped us feel more productive.

Only 2-3 draws were needed to start feeling a rise in our energy levels.

Relaxation

The most impressive benefit we got from the vape pens was a strong sense of relaxation.

It only took a few draws to get us feeling calmer.

We felt less agitated from our day and found ourselves in a better mood.

Our team was also generally happier and felt less tense.

Sleep

Surprisingly, despite the benefits for relaxation, the pens were only moderately beneficial for sleep.

They helped us feel more ready for bed and fall asleep a little faster, but that was about the extent.

We didn’t notice any help that we slept longer or better, but its usefulness for falling asleep faster shouldn’t be overlooked either.

The more draws we took seemed to have a slight positive correlation with the pen’s efficacy for sleep.

Pros & Cons

Pros for the CBDfx Terpene Vape Pens:

  • Great tasting flavors
  • Pens are small and discreet
  • Noticeable benefits
  • Well-priced

Cons for the CBDfx Terpene Vape Pens:

  • We did not notice a difference in the benefits between the pens
  • Concentration may be too low for some people

Conclusion

Our CBDfx vape pen review we found lots of positive takeaways, while also seeing some areas for improvement.

There’s a lot to like about the pens, including the enjoyable flavors, the efficacy, and the quality hardware.

As for how the pens can improve, we believe a higher dosage would enhance the efficacy for more people.

Also, we’d like to see more minor cannabinoids detected in the third-party results, which could be solved by having a higher CBD dosage.

Despite the potential improvements, CBDfx produces flavorful, high-quality pens that may be particularly helpful for discomfort and relaxation.

As a result, the CBDfx Terpene Vape Pens earn our recommendation.
