Cannabidiol (CBD) will be making several appearances at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA this week from March 5-9. Nearly 10 sessions during the expo will feature CBD or hemp, with topics ranging from the industry’s potential to the latest research on the cannabinoid. Many of the industry’s top companies will be present, including CBDistillery, Charlotte’s Web, CV Sciences, and Elixinol.
CBD will make its second appearance in as many years at the world’s largest natural products exposition: Natural Products Expo West.
The expo is put on by New Hope Network, a market analysis firm for companies producing natural products.
In 2018, Natural Products Expo West saw 85,000 attendees and over 3,500 exhibitors.
This year, the expo has over 3,600 exhibitors and will also likely surpass last year’s attendance.
Some of the notable exhibitors include: CBDistillery, Charlotte’s Web, Elixinol, and Green Roads CBD.
Several sessions during the week will focus on CBD and hemp, featuring speakers from major companies in the industry such as CV Sciences, Charlotte’s Web, and Elixinol.
Here are some of the most prominent CBD and hemp sessions during the week:
Time: Tuesday, March 5th; 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
This all-day summit will discuss several topics about the emerging hemp and CBD industry.
The summit will discuss business opportunities, health research, the industry’s legal status, highlight certain brands, along with much more.
Several of the speakers work for major companies such as CV Sciences, Elixinol, Bluebird Botanicals, and Ananda Hemp.
Time: Wednesday, March 6th; 8:30 am – 9:30 am
Led by Raj Gupta, the Chief Scientific Officer at Folium Biosciences, this session will look at several aspects of CBD.
Topics include the cannabinoid’s history, its use in consumer products, its safety, and its role as a nutrient.
Time: Wednesday, March 6th; 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm
Joy Beckerman, Regulatory Officer and Industry Liaison at Elixinol, will explain how companies can approach CBD in their specific marketplace in accordance with the law and industry regulations.
Time: Thursday, March 7th; 10:30 am – 11:30 am
This seminar explains the story of how Charlotte’s Web—one of the most popular CBD companies—came into existence.
The Stanley brothers, the co-founders of Charlotte’s Web, will also speak on the importance of quality and innovation in the industry, as well as how they have overcome hurdles in relation to legislation.
Jonathan Lawrence of Fresh Thyme Farmers Market and Charlotte Figi’s mother will join the Stanley brothers.
Time: Friday, March 8th; 11:30 am – 12:30 pm
Speakers from Barlean’s, a supplements provider based in Washington, will explain why CBD is a great opportunity for retailers, the legal landscape for the cannabinoid, the FDA’s stance on CBD, and what the 2018 Farm Bill really allows.
They will also share advice on how to stay within legal parameters when talking with customers and how to properly merchandise CBD products.

In this lecture, the Vice President of Human Nutrition at CV Sciences, Stuart Tomc, will overview the history of the hemp CBD market, the future of hemp CBD natural products, why hemp extracts are different from FDA-approved drug, and how to find trustworthy companies in the industry.
