Concentration

Both the 0.5oz and 1.5oz tins of this balm come in a 300mg/oz concentration, yielding 150mg and 450mg of cannabinoids, respectively.

According to the certificate of analysis (COA), here’s what our 1.5oz/42.5g product contained in terms of major and minor cannabinoids:

  • CBD: 6.5mg/g, approx 414.375mg total
  • CBG: 0.2mg/g, approx 12.75mg total
  • CBC: 0.2mg/g, approx 12.75mg total
  • Delta-9 THC: 0.03%, 12.8mg total.
  • Total hemp extract concentration: 493mg.

It’s important to note that this particular product is far from the legal THC limit and topicals are less likely to elicit drug interactions.

Value

Currently, Charlotte’s Web charges $29.99 for their 1.5oz/450mg Hemp Infused Balm, which equals $0.066/mg.

In terms of affordability, this price point is moderately competitive, especially when compared to other high-quality, full-spectrum CBD topicals.

Since the balm is readily absorbed by the skin, it’s a greater value than even comparably priced products that require more per use.

When weighed against product quality, we consider this balm to be a strong value, though it trails slightly behind the frontrunners

Packaging

As pictured, the balm comes in a standard tin.

The tin was easy to open and close, and everything was intact upon receipt.

Label space is understandably at a premium, but Charlotte’s Web makes the most of it with product instructions, basic product info, ingredients, and a QR code for accessing lab reports.

Ingredients

The ingredients list printed on our product label reads as follows:

Helianthus annuus (sunflower seed) oil, cera alba (beeswax), cocos nucifera (coconut) oil*, simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) seed oil*, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, menthol, hemp oil CO2 extract, eucalyptus globulus (eucalyptus) leaf oil, mentha piperita (peppermint) oil*, cinnamomum camphora (camphor) bark oil, melaleuca leucadendron (cajeput) oil, cinnamomum cassia (chinese cinnamon) oil, eugenia caryophyllus (clove) flower oil, mentha arvensis (horse mint) leaf oil, tocopheryl acetate (vitamin E).

*Organic ingredients.

Smell and Texture

True to the label, this Hemp Infused Balm by Charlotte’s Web smells of a hodgepodge of natural oils, though cinnamon and peppermint dominate, as expected.

The menthol stings through a bit, but it’s not enough to mute the softer nuances like eucalyptus and clove.

Overall, it smells great, and our noses picked up no red flags in terms of harsh chemicals.

As for the texture, this balm is a bit more on the solid side, but scooping it out gets easier after two or three uses.

Most importantly, it isn’t gloppy, and you can feel it absorbing deep into the skin (as opposed to slushing around on the surface) after a minute or two of massaging.

Effectiveness

Charlotte’s Web Hemp Infused Balm felt great on small areas like the knuckles, fingers, and wrists.

The heating and cooling action of the menthol took center stage, rivaling other hemp-based balms that we’ve reviewed.

Pros & Cons

Let’s start with the pros:

  • Competitively priced
  • Effective, botanical-rich ingredients
  • Pleasant smell and texture
  • Readily absorbed by the skin

And for the cons:

  • Low-to-moderate cannabinoid concentration

Conclusion

Whether it’s your first foray into the somewhat confusing realm of CBD topical products, or if you’re looking for a cleaner and more effective formulation, Charlotte’s Web Hemp Infused Balm is hard to upstage.

In all dimensions of pure quality—ingredients, cannabinoid density, extraction method (CO2), etc.—this balm rides the highest standards without compromising.

It’s not the cheapest topical, but considering the brand, it’s definitely among the best in the industry as far as price versus quality is concerned.

For anyone who’s a little timid about the THC content or CBD topicals in general, you can opt for the 0.5oz size as a sample and see for yourself.
