The company uses organic and sustainable cultivation techniques, including using cover crops, ladybugs as natural pest predators, and never using toxic or harmful chemicals.
Soil and irrigation systems are also consistently tested in the offseason to ensure the safety of an upcoming crop.
After harvesting, Charlotte’s Web uses Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) to extract the hemp oil for its original formula products, while using CO2 for all the other products.
Samples from every batch of products are tested by ISO-17025-accredited third-party laboratories, such as Eurofins.
The samples are tested for cannabinoid potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbes.
Charlotte’s Web prints QR codes onto the label of all their products so customers can easily access third-party test results.
The brand has received the US Hemp Authority’s seal of certification and a current Good Manufacturing Practice certification.
Concentration
The 30ml Original Formula tincture contains 1,500mg of CBD in full-spectrum hemp extract.
Charlotte’s Web measures servings by 0.5ml—contrary to most brands—so they advertise their CBD oil as having 25mg per serving.
To keep measurements consistent with most other brands, we’ll look at the Original Formula tincture in terms of milligrams per milliliter.
According to the certificate of analysis, our particular tincture had 62mg/ml, which comes out to 1,860mg total.
Minor cannabinoids were also detected.
While that’s a large discrepancy, natural hemp extract can be volatile in concentration, and we’re happy to see that the amount of CBD is not less than advertised.
A note on the Original Formula supplement facts states that the minimum amount of phytocannabinoids is 25mg/serving (50mg/ml), indicating that Charlotte’s Web accounts for this volatility.
Nevertheless, a person taking significantly more CBD than they thought may potentially cause unexpected effects.

Once we did open the tincture, the droppers for one of our products did not work, forcing us to use a dropper from another product sample to use the Original Formula tincture.
From an industry leader, we would expect issues like this to happen very rarely, but according to consumer reviews, broken droppers were an ongoing issue for a while.
However, as of 2020, Charlotte’s Web seems to have overhauled their branding and production, so we’re more confident now that these minor complaints have been remedied.
Additionally, the droppers do not have measurements.
We’ve heard that adding measurements, usually done with an ink of some sort, is not the best practice, since the ink may erode and leach into the oil.
The Original Formula tincture’s label contains supplement facts, an ingredients list, suggested use information, and the batch number, which allows consumers to look up third-party lab results.

Flavor & Scent
We enjoyed the Mint Chocolate flavor of the tincture, as well as the faint scent it had.
The flavoring almost completely masks any hemp taste, but it does leave a slight mint aftertaste.
Compared to other brands, this flavoring is some of the best we’ve had.
Other flavored Charlotte’s Web tinctures with a higher concentration of CBD, such as their 60mg/ml tincture, have weaker flavor because the hemp is overpowering.
As for the oil itself, it is a dark, thick amber color.
Effectiveness
We used the tinctures anywhere from one to two times a day daily for a couple of weeks, taking approximately 1ml in each instance.
