Welcome to our Plus CBD Oil softgels review!
Over a period of several weeks, our team of testers sampled PlusCBD™ Oil’s Extra Strength Formula (15mg/each) and Maximum Strength Formula (50mg/each) softgels, both in 30-count bottles.
Other softgel varieties currently offered by the brand include their Original Formula, Raw Formula, and Total Plant Complex softgels.
As a trusted brand that has elevated industry standards for full-spectrum hemp softgels and capsules especially, PlusCBD™ Oil is expected to keep the innovations coming without sacrificing a mote of quality.
We’re pleased to say that the softgels we tried kept up to these ambitious standards.
As usual, we’re proud to extend our exclusive Plus CBD Oil Coupon code with our audience—and now for our comprehensive PlusCBD™ Oil softgels review.
PlusCBD™ Oil’s Maximum Strength Softgels are among the most potent across the industry, providing 50mg of CBD per serving.
Both the Extra Strength and Maximum Strength products are powered by a thoughtfully sourced and manufactured (full-spectrum) hemp extract.
Between the two concentrations, newcomers to CBD and veterans alike will have access to a safe and effective product at a great value.
Both the Extra Strength Formula (aka the Gold Formula) and Maximum Strength Formula softgels we sampled contain full-spectrum hemp oil.
We typically took 3-4 of the Extra Strength Formula softgels (45-60mg) throughout each day, and after that portion of the review was completed, we took 1-2 (50-100mg) of the Maximum Strength Formula softgels.
Before, during, and after the actual sampling period, we made our usual assessments across multiple criteria, including hemp quality, cannabinoid concentration (and other lab test findings), overall value, packaging, and more.
Let’s start with PlusCBD™ Oil’s hemp quality.
(Want to learn more about PlusCBD™ Oil and their products? Check out our comprehensive PlusCBD™ Oil review!)
PlusCBD™ Oil hemp extract is sourced from Holland by its parent company, CV Sciences.
Holland is the world’s second-largest exporter of food by value, an achievement attributed to their highly sustainable and clean agricultural methods.
In other words, this is an excellent nation from which to import hemp, considering their top food safety and quality ratings.
CV Sciences uses EU-certified hemp seeds to grow its non-GMO hemp, which endures several rounds of testing throughout the cultivation process to guarantee safety.
After the hemp is imported, the oil is extracted from the plant matter using CO2, which is widely regarded as the safest and most efficient solvent in the CBD industry
All this considered, PlusCBD™ Oil has earned its place among the small pack of frontrunners in the CBD industry who take these extra steps to ensure maximum quality.
As mentioned, the Extra Strength softgels weigh in at 15mg of CBD each, totaling 450mg for our 30-count container (also available in 60 or 90).
The Maximum Strength softgels ramped the density all the way up to an impressive 50mg per serving, totaling 1500mg for our 30-count container.
In order to get a much more accurate look at the actual CBD and other cannabinoid content as well as pesticide and contaminant reports, we checked with DB Labs, the third-party tester that provides these analyses for all of PlusCBD™ Oil’s products.
Here is the cannabinoid breakdown for one capsule of the Maximum Strength softgels, as reported by the batch-specific certificate of analysis:
These softgels also passed all tests for approximately 40 different pesticides, residual solvents, and other possible contaminants
Overall, this is a very clean lab report indicating high CBD and low THC densities.
We normally like to see a greater supporting cannabinoid (CBG, CBN, CBD, etc.) presence, but considering the more than 50mg of CBD per piece, we don’t have doubts about this product’s potency.
Extra Strength Formula (15mg):
-30-count: $29.99 ($0.07/mg)
-60-count: $52.49 ($0.06/mg)
-90-count: $84.99 ($0.06/mg)
Maximum Strength Formula (50mg):
-30-count: $59.99 ($0.04/mg)
-60-count: $89.99 ($0.03/mg)
Once again, we’ll break this review criteria down by formulation.
This product retails for $29.99, which reduces to $0.07/mg.
While this isn’t an absolutely rock-bottom price point, it’s still inviting when weighed against brand reputation and hemp quality.
The Maximum Strength softgels retail for $59.99.
As expected, the price per milligram of CBD dipped significantly as concentration increased to 1500mg, dropping from $0.07 for the Extra Strength product to $0.04 for the Maximum Strength.
Considering the variables of brand reputation and hemp quality didn’t change, this offers an even more compelling price point for consumers looking to save money and/or try larger doses of CBD.
Both of these products feature a darkly tinted container with standard screw-on lid housed in a small box.
All packing was intact upon receipt, the lids were easy to work, and the extra surface area of the box was well utilized.
Between the boxes and the containers (which were labeled exactly the same except for the obvious), customers can view supplement facts and ingredients, basic product information, a short blurb about PlusCBD, and even a short Q&A section.
Also, the bottles featured a QR code that allows consumers to access the lab reports we reviewed earlier quickly and conveniently.
As expected, PlusCBD outperformed in all areas related to product packaging.
Ingredients list (both concentrations): Hemp Oil (includes CBD), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Vegetarian Softgel (Vegetable Cellulose, Water), and Silica.
Both products have the same ingredients list: Hemp extract (aerial plant parts), extra virgin olive oil, vegetarian softgel (modified corn starch, glycerin, carrageenan, sorbitol, & purified water), chlorophyllin.
The extra virgin olive oil provides a welcome accompaniment of beneficial compounds called polyphenols.
Everything else was what you would expect from a conscientious company using clean ingredients to form a capsule and enhance delivery of the hemp extract.
Top marks for a clean ingredients list here.
As softgels, neither the taste nor the smell is noticeable for the everyday consumer not going out of their way to assess these qualities.
Our more scrutinizing investigation revealed a very slight bitterness of smell and a slightly sweet taste.
The smooth and soft texture was unremarkable, mirroring the vast majority of softgel products everywhere.
Finally, the size was very manageable; these softgels were among the more modestly sized softgels we’ve sampled.
Typically, we sampled these softgels once each morning and once in the late afternoon.
The Extra Strength softgels did not seem to produce any noticeable effects when we took one in the morning and afternoon, but after doubling this daily dose, we noticed moderate to significant improvements in a few areas.
It was easier to concentrate on tasks for longer periods of time without succumbing to distractions (phone, personal email, etc.).
These Extra Strength softgels also seemed to help promote a sense of calm when inevitable curveballs were thrown, whether at work or in our personal lives.
Finally, one of our testers reported he stopped grinding his teeth at night after two days of taking these softgels (as communicated by his spouse).
At first, we were only taking one of these 50mg softgels in the morning, which significantly helped with mood, concentration, and some discomfort issues (minor joint soreness, back discomfort, etc.).
Similarly, we also felt a steady sense of calm that persisted throughout at least half of the work day.
When we upped daily doses to two capsules, we were surprised at how effective these softgels were for getting us to sleep faster.
Overall, both concentrations provided a number of benefits consistent with top-tier CBD products we’ve tried in the past.
We’ll start with the pros:
And now the cons:
-Effective
-Safe, high-quality sourcing and manufacturing
-Low in THC
-Clean ingredients list
Given the high quality, value, safety, and effectiveness of these PlusCBD™ Oil softgels, our team recommends both concentrations, which were highly effective after optimizing dosage levels.
For newcomers to CBD who want to try multiple products from multiple brands, the Extra Strength may be a better option, but for people who are more comfortable with CBD, the higher concentration provides a greater value.
