In our PlusCBD™ Oil softgels review, we analyze the concentration, value, effectiveness, and much more of the three formulations they offer. Softgels are some of the brand’s best-selling products, especially the PlusCBD™ Oil Gold Formula softgels. CV Sciences, the parent company of PlusCBD™ Oil, recently obtained a self-affirmed GRAS designation for the gold product line, including the softgels. Aside from such an excellent safety profile, these softgels are effective and well worth the price PlusCBD™ Oil asks.

PlusCBD™ Oil Softgels Review
For our PlusCBD™ Oil softgels review, we tested the following three variations:
- Raw Formula Softgels (5 mg, 60 ct)
- Total Plant Complex Softgels (10 mg, 30 ct)
- Gold Formula Softgels (15 mg, 60 ct)
All of these products contain full-spectrum hemp oil, but they differ regarding their content of minor cannabinoids and plant compounds.
We review CBD softgels based on the quality of the hemp they come from, cannabinoid concentration, value, packaging, ingredients, flavor and scent, and effectiveness.
Let’s start with PlusCBD™ Oil’s hemp quality.

PlusCBD™ Oil Hemp Quality
Parent company CV Sciences provides the hemp for its PlusCBD™ Oil products from farms in Holland (The Netherlands).
Holland is the world’s second-largest exporter of food by value because of its sustainable and clean methods.
As a result, the nation has high food safety ratings, making it an excellent choice for growing hemp.
CV Sciences uses EU-certified hemp seeds to grow its non-GMO hemp, which is tested several times throughout the cultivation process to ensure the hemp is safe.
After importing the hemp, the oil is extracted using CO2, which is widely regarded as the best current extraction method.
The facility where the extraction takes place meets the FDA’s food ingredient standards.
PlusCBD™ Oil also conducts extensive third-party testing on every batch of their products.
The brand primarily uses DB Labs, an ISO-17025-accredited lab.
DB Labs tests PlusCBD™ Oil’s products for cannabinoid potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbes.
Products are also tested at CV Sciences’ in-house lab to confirm cannabinoid potency.
The third-party lab results of all products from PlusCBD™ Oil are available online here.
Every product has a QR code that allows customers to access the results for its specific batch.
PlusCBD™ Oil wants to help all customers feel safe and comfortable taking hemp-derived CBD, which is evident in their operation.
“Hemp CBD should be available for all, and no one should have to be worried about taking a product to improve their overall wellbeing,” said Amabelle Dela Cruz, the Digital Marketing Manager at CV Sciences.
The concentration differs between the three PlusCBD™ Oil softgel variations.
The Raw Formula, which is raw hemp oil that has not undergone decarboxylation (the heating of cannabis to break down and “activate” cannabinoids), contains a 5 mg combination of CBDA (cannabidiolic acid) and CBD.
CBDA is the parent form of CBD present in raw hemp, which then turns into CBD when heated.
These softgels also contain the least amount of minor cannabinoids in comparison with the other formulations.
The Total Plant Complex softgels, which contain decarboxylated hemp oil, have 10 mg of CBD per softgel.
In addition to CBD, Total Plant Complex has a robust profile of minor cannabinoids and plant compounds, such as fatty acids, Vitamin E, and more.
Finally, the Gold Formula softgels are decarboxylated and distilled, possessing the highest concentration of CBD at 15 mg per softgel.
All of the softgel products we tested were within 1 mg of their advertised concentration, according to the respective certificates of analysis.
Compared to other brands, PlusCBD™ Oil has particularly low concentrations of CBD in not only their softgels but all of their products.
CBD softgels are often found at doses of 20-30 mg per softgel; however, dosage does not necessarily correlate with effectiveness, as we’ll show below.
Below is an analysis of the value for each PlusCBD™ Oil softgel formulation.
Raw Formula Softgels
The 60 ct bottle of Raw Formula softgels retails for $49.95, which is $0.167/mg.
A 10 ct variation is available for $12.95, and a 30 ct bottle is available for $29.95.
The main attraction of this product is the raw hemp oil, a formulation that is not widely available among hemp-derived products.
With that said, it can be challenging to see how only 5 mg of CBD and CBDA would be adequate for most people.
For what it’s worth, we were told these are meant for those new to CBD, so beginners who want a low dose CBD product to start out may like the Raw Formula 10 ct package.
Total Plant Complex Softgels
The 30 ct Total Plant Complex softgels we tried cost $29.95, which comes in at $0.100/mg.
A 10 ct package is $14.95, while a 60 ct bottle is $59.95.
Surprisingly, the 30 ct Total Plant Complex softgels have the same price of the 30 ct Raw Formula softgels, despite having twice the CBD concentration.
For the CBD softgels market, this is a competitive price for a product that has more to offer than its CBD content.
Gold Formula Softgels
The 60 ct Gold Formula softgels are priced at $89.95, which is $0.100/mg.
A 10 ct package costs $19.95, and the 30 ct bottle retails for $49.95.
The 60 ct is also well-priced, and this variation of the Gold Formula softgels is the most cost-efficient.
PlusCBD™ Oil used the Gold Formula product line in the toxicology studies that helped them obtain their self-affirmed GRAS designation, so customers can rest assured knowing these softgels are of the highest quality.
In our opinion, the Gold Formulation softgels hold the most value of all the softgel products.
The packaging of PlusCBD™ Oil products is some of the most professional we have come across.
All PlusCBD™ Oil softgel products come in amber glass bottles, except for the 10 ct products, which come in blister packaging.
The labels contain basic dietary supplement information, along with a QR code allowing customers to look up the third-party results of their product online.
As for the softgels themselves, the Raw Formula and Total Plant Complex softgels are both a dark color, while the Gold Formula softgels are gold.
Ingredients for all of the PlusCBD™ Oil capsules include: Hemp Oil (includes CBD), Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Vegetarian Softgel (Vegetable Cellulose, Water), and Silica.
These are basic ingredients, with the only active ingredient being hemp oil.
The presence of extra virgin olive oil is noteworthy.
Brands commonly use coconut oil (MCT oil) as their carrier oil of choice, but PlusCBD™ Oil differs.
Research shows that while both may have health benefits, especially for the heart, extra virgin olive oil is slightly superior due to its fat ratio and antioxidant profile.
This addition simply adds to the potential benefit these PlusCBD™ Oil softgels could provide.
Flavor & Scent
The softgels do not have a noticeable taste, while they do have a slightly sweet scent.
Our team tested the softgels for common benefits associated with CBD, including energy, focus, recovery, relaxation, sleep, and overall well-being.
Here are our team’s results with each formulation.
Raw Formula Softgels
Unfortunately—but not unexpectedly—the Raw Formula softgels simply did not seem to have a high enough concentration to produce any more than mild benefits.
Some team members reported a moderate sense of relaxation with one softgel, while others did not notice anything.
It required an increase of our dosage to two or three softgels before most of us noticed any discernable effects, which we deemed was too many to justify the cost for mild benefits.
Total Plant Complex Softgels
Compared to the Raw Formula, the Total Plant Complex softgels were considerably more effective.
Team members felt a variety of benefits, including a boost in energy levels, lifted mood, and relaxation.
These effects were more noticeable when we took two softgels as opposed to one.
While not an ideal consumption rate, this is justifiable considering the price.
Gold Formula Softgels
Our hypothesis going into our review of these PlusCBD™ Oil softgels was that the Gold Formula would be our team’s favorite: we were right.
Surprisingly, one of the most pronounced benefits we found was for recovery.
Taking only one softgel reduced soreness and decreased our recovery time.
This is an important benefit for our team since many of us exercise, and it has been difficult to find a CBD product that helps with recovery, despite anecdotes from others about how CBD products have helped them in this area.
Team members also found the softgels helpful for promoting relaxation, boosting energy levels, and improving sleep quality.
For these latter benefits, we usually found ourselves taking two softgels.
While the Gold Formula softgels are more expensive than the other formulations, the benefits are also more pronounced.
In light of how effective they are, we believe these softgels are worth it considering their price.
Pros & Cons
Here is a quick summary of the PlusCBD™ Oil softgels.
Pros for the softgels:
- Total Plant Complex and Gold Formula have competitive prices
- Noticeable effects for recovery, relaxation, and sleep
- Variety of products to choose
Cons for the softgels:
- Raw Formula softgels were expensive and only slightly effective
For the most part, the softgels were a success with our team, especially the PlusCBD™ Oil Gold Formula softgels.
PlusCBD™ Oil has a high-quality operation and creates clean, safe products as evidenced by the company’s self-affirmed GRAS status for its Gold Formula line.
While the Raw Formula softgels did not score highly with our team, the rest of the softgels did excellently in all categories, even providing a unique benefit (i.e., recovery) that our team has struggled to find with other CBD products.
All things considered, our team can proudly recommend PlusCBD™ Oil softgels.
