PlusCBD™ Oil’s Balm comes from the brand’s best-selling Gold Formula line of products. CV Sciences, the brand’s parent company, recently conducted toxicology studies that led to a self-affirmed GRAS designation for their gold product line. After testing the balm for ourselves, we noticed noticeable benefits for recovery, irritation, and skincare. In fact, it may be one of the most beneficial CBD topicals we’ve reviewed.

PlusCBD™ Oil Balm Review
For our PlusCBD™ Oil Balm review, we tested the Extra Strength PlusCBD™ Oil Hemp Balm.
The balm contains hemp extract from PlusCBD™ Oil’s Gold Formula.
We review CBD topicals by the quality of their hemp material, CBD concentration, product packaging, scent and texture, effectiveness, and value.
Let’s start with the quality of the hemp extract in PlusCBD™ Oil’s topicals.

PlusCBD™ Oil Hemp Quality
CV Sciences, the parent company of PlusCBD™ Oil, sources hemp from farms in Holland (The Netherlands).
Holland is an excellent place for hemp farming, as the nation is the world’s second-largest exporter of foods by value because of the sustainable and clean methods it employs.
All the hemp is non-GMO and grown from EU-certified hemp seeds.
CV Sciences conducts several tests during the cultivation process to ensure the hemp is clean and safe.
Once the hemp is brought to the US, the oil is extracted using CO2—the cleanest and safest extraction method—in a facility that meets the FDA’s food ingredient standards.
Afterward, every batch of product is extensively tested primarily by DB Labs, an ISO-1025-accredited lab.
DB Labs tests PlusCBD™ Oil’s products for cannabinoid potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbes.
CV Sciences also uses its in-house laboratory to confirm cannabinoid potency.
You can access the third-party lab results for PlusCBD™ Oil’s products online.
All of the company’s products also have a QR code that customers can scan to access individual results.
PlusCBD™ Oil takes these measures to ensure safety and promote consumers’ sense of security with their products.
“Hemp CBD should be available for all, and no one should have to be worried about taking a product to improve their overall wellbeing,” said Amabelle Dela Cruz, the Digital Marketing Manager at CV Sciences.
The PlusCBD™ Oil Balm contains 100 mg of CBD in each 1.3 oz product, which comes out to about 77mg/oz.
According to the certificate of analysis for the individual product we tested, it contained 109mg of CBD and 115mg in total cannabinoids.
Similar to other PlusCBD™ Oil products, this concentration is below the average for the CBD topical market.
Most CBD topicals range from 100mg/oz – 200mg/oz, while some can go as high as 500mg/oz (e.g., CBDistillery CBDol) or as low as 40mg/oz.
Despite the low concentration, the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm has no problem in terms of efficacy.
PlusCBD™ Oil Balm costs $51.95, which clocks in at $0.520/mg and $39.962/oz.
Considering the low concentration, such a high price per mg is expected and it is well above the average for topicals.
However, topicals can have a wide range of concentrations and prices, depending on their purpose.
In comparison with similar topicals, most range anywhere from $40-$60, making the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm competitive.
After our experience with the topical, we think it’s valued appropriately, although we would like to see either a higher concentration of CBD or slightly reduced price.
PlusCBD™ Oil’s Hemp Balm is contained in a clear, glass jar with a screw-top lid.
The label includes the ingredients list and a QR code for customers to access their product’s third-party lab results.
It also advertises the non-GMO nature of the hemp and the CO2 extraction method the company uses.
The balm itself is cream-colored.
Ingredients in the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm include: Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil), Cera Alba (Beeswax), Candelilla/Jojoba/Rice Bran Polyglyceryl-3 Esters, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Sodium Stearoyl Lactylate, Hemp Oil (Aerial Plant Parts), Mentha Piperita (Peppermint) Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, and Ascorbyl Palmitate.
PlusCBD™ Oil has filled up this balm with several beneficial, natural ingredients like peppermint oil and safflower oil.
Peppermint has properties that are believed to relieve occasional aches and soften the skin.
Safflower oil, which contains Vitamin E, is commonly found in cosmetic products because it may help soothe and soften dry skin, according to Medical News Today.
Considering the low concentration of hemp extract, it seems that most of the benefits of the balm are due to ingredients like these.
Scent & Texture
The balm smells of peppermint oil, but also has a hint of sweetness.
The sweet scent may be attributable to the sweet almond oil, but almond oil typically has a faint smell.
As for the texture, the balm is semi-firm, smooth, non-greasy, easy-to-apply, and absorbs well into the skin.
You can cover a sizeable area of skin with a relatively small amount of balm.
We tested the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm for its effects on recovery, irritation, and skincare.
We used the topical as often as necessary, and the effects lasted about 3-4 hours on average.
By itself, the balm was somewhat beneficial for recovery after exercise.
In conjunction with the PlusCBD™ Oil Gold Formula softgels, the two were a powerful duo.
We used the balm immediately after exercising, as well as the day after, and it seemed to speed up the recovery process.
Soothing irritation was the balm’s most effective use.
We used the balm on bug bites and scratches, which significantly relieved the itching and irritation.
Generally, we had to apply the balm about three to four times during the day to keep the irritation at bay.
The balm also moisturized our skin and improved the appearance of our hands and elbows after only a few uses.
Overall, team members reported their skin felt healthy, soft, and improved after using the balm.
Pros & Cons
Pros of the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm:
- Highly effective
- Spa-like quality
- Competitive price
- All-natural ingredients
Cons of the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm:
- CBD concentration is low
The PlusCBD™ Oil Balm earned one of our highest effectiveness ratings for CBD topicals at 4.6/5, which is both surprising considering the CBD concentration and expected since PlusCBD™ Oil is an industry leader.
While we have a few concerns with the low concentration, they were sufficiently silenced by the balm’s excellent ingredients and effectiveness.
The balm is a little pricey, especially the price per mg, but its retail value is on par with other topicals.
If you’re looking for a premium CBD topical at a competitive price, we highly recommend you try the PlusCBD™ Oil Balm.
