This is our Hawaiian Choice review.

Our favorite product from the company is the company’s Active CBD Oil Spray.

Not only does the oil taste great (the Hawaiian honey flavor is noticeable), but we also found it improved our sense of well-being as well as giving us energy.

Another product we love from Hawaiian CBD is the CBD Topical Gel.

It has an incredibly smooth texture, an amazing tropical aroma, and feels soothing to the skin and muscles.

Hawaiian Choice started in 2017 and is based in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The company was founded by CEO Jared Dalgamouni, a Hawaii native, who noticed that a Hawaiian CBD brand was lacking in the industry.

To help further differentiate the brand, Dalgamouni and the Hawaiian Choice team decided to work with chemists to help infuse terpenes and chefs to craft the flavor with Hawaiian produce.

The hard work has seemed to pay off in only a short time.

Hawaiian Choice products are used by and sold in luxury spas, including the Four Seasons Maui, Marriott, and Grand Hyatt Kauai.

They can also be found in more than 150 stores across the US and even internationally in Tokyo and Mexico.

What Makes Hawaiian Choice Unique?

As if CBD from Hawaii isn’t unique enough, Hawaiian Choice has several differentiators from other brands.

One of the first features that stuck out to us was the packaging.

The bamboo lids, tropical colors, and state of Hawaii silhouette on the products made us feel like we were on the islands.

Another unique feature of Hawaiian Choice is their ingredients.

Aside from its broad-spectrum hemp extract, all of the other ingredients Hawaiian Choice includes—honey, Hawaiian fruit, and essential oils—are either organic or wild-gathered.

Hawaiian Choice also infuses their CBD oil with specific terpenes to produce targeted benefits, such as relaxation or relief.

We thought this was well advised.

Since the brand uses broad-spectrum CBD, their products cannot take full advantage of the entourage effect; thus, a 2.3% infusion of organic terpenes could, in theory, increase the effectiveness of their products.

Where Does Hawaiian Choice Source Their Hemp?

Hawaiian Choice sources their hemp from farms in Colorado and Oregon, but recently thanks to new laws and better hemp harvests, the company is changing to Hawaiian-grown hemp.

The change will make Hawaiian Choice’s products completely Hawaiian.

All of the hemp Hawaiian Choice uses is organic, meaning no pesticides or herbicides are used on the plants.

The other ingredients found in Hawaiian Choice’s products, such as the Hawaiian fruits, honey, and essential oils, are also either organic or wild-gathered.

What Extraction Method Does Hawaiian Choice Use?

The brand uses CO2 to extract the oil from all parts of the hemp plant, including the flower, stalk, and stem.

After extracting the hemp oil, the company distills it and uses chromatography to remove the THC.

The finished product is a broad-spectrum hemp extract, which is used in all of Hawaiian Choice’s products.

Does Hawaiian Choice Use Third-Party Testing?

Hawaiian Choice utilizes two third-party laboratories to test their products: Steep Hill Hawaii and Aeos Labs Hawaii.

Both labs are ISO-17025-accredited, and their methods have been validated.

Each batch of product is tested six to ten times.

They are tested for cannabinoid potency, residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, microbes, and terpene profiling.

All of Hawaiian Choice’s products come with a QR code that customers can scan to download the corresponding third-party test results.

The customer service at Hawaiian Choice is great.

We got a response to our question via the site’s contact form in just over two hours.

The representative gave a thorough and personal answer that was not auto-generated or a template.

Visitors to the Hawaiian Choice website can also have an online chat with a representative from the company.

Shipping takes three to five business days for either a flat rate of $6.50 or free for orders over $49. 

There is no information about a return policy.

Future of Hawaiian Choice

While the pandemic has slowed down the research and development operation at Hawaiian Choice, the company has already plotted a course for future products.

“Everything is a little bit on hold because of COVID-19,” said Jennifer Carlile, Creative Director at Hawaiian Choice and wife to founder Jared Dalgamouni, “but we’re looking at more bath and spa products.”

Hawaiian Choice has a high bar for any new product that they may create. 

“We want things that are very, very high quality, and that we know will be effective and work,” said Carlile.

Currently, the company is researching various edible, topical, and bath products that incorporate iconic, healthy Hawaiian products such as Hawaiian honey, Kona coffee, and red Hawaiian Alaeʻa Salt.

Rare Cannabinoid Company

Rare Cannabinoid Company is the sister brand of Hawaiian Choice that was launched in April 2020.

The unique products that they offer warranted a brief mention here.

The company sells sprays containing mostly minor cannabinoids like CBN, CBG, and others, rather than primarily CBD.

Rare Cannabinoid Company operates similarly to Hawaiian Choice, including where the hemp is sourced (Hawaii) and the third-party laboratory.

We tried the Rest product, which contains 500mg of CBN.

Once we found the right serving size for us, we found that the product had profound benefits.

In comparison with CBD-centric tinctures, the CBD & CBN oil was significantly more effective.

Rare Cannabinoid Company offers single extract bottles filled with a single cannabinoid, including CBN, CBG, CBC, and THCV (this will not get users “high”).

The brand also has 1:1 blends of each of the four above cannabinoids with CBD.

We tried the entire Hawaiian Choice product line and reviewed all of their products.

Hawaiian Choice CBD Oil Sprays

Concentration

All of Hawaiian Choice’s CBD oil sprays contain 750mg of CBD from broad-spectrum hemp extract.

According to the third-party lab results for these sprays, there was around 800mg per bottle.

The lab did not detect any THC nor any other minor cannabinoids, which is somewhat surprising.

Unfortunately, there was no terpene testing for us to see how much of each specific terpene were in the four sprays we tried.

Hawaiian Choice says there are about 75 sprays available per bottle, which means each spray is worth 10mg of CBD.

At 750mg, the sprays contain a moderate concentration of CBD.

Perhaps in the future, the company will add more potency options.

Value

Each spray retails for $79, which comes in at $0.105/mg.

We like to see CBD oil tinctures that are around $0.10/mg and under, so Hawaiian Choice makes the cut on affordability.

The company also offers a subscription service for 15% off.

At $67.15 (15% off $79), the price per mg is $0.09.

Customers can choose to receive products every two weeks, month, six weeks, or two months.

Packaging

As mentioned earlier, the packaging is one of the most unique and interesting features of Hawaiian Choice.

Each spray bottle comes in a box that contains directions about how to use the spray, an ingredients list, an FDA disclaimer, an expiration date, a batch number, and a QR code.

The lids of the spray bottles are made from bamboo and a plastic spray pump, along with a plastic cap.

The bottles are made from frosted amber glass, which is non-transparent to protect the oil from sunlight.

Labels on the bottles themselves contain the same information as the boxes they come in.

Ingredients

Here are the ingredients that are in each spray: Organic MCT Oil (Coconut), Organic Honey, CBD Oil, Organic Terpenes, Organic Cane Sugar, Ethanol, Passion Fruit, Organic Hibiscus, Pineapple, Organic Noni, Grapefruit Seed Extract, Vegetable Glycerine, and Citric Acid.

Relax Terpenes: Linalool, Myrcene, and Terpinolene.

Relief Terpenes: Eucalyptol, Humulene, and Gamma Terpinene.

Active Terpenes: Delta-3 Carene, Humulene, and Limonene.

Focus Terpenes: Alpha Pinene, Beta Pinene, and Limonene.

Overall, the ingredients are good, although these sprays contain more sugar than other CBD oil products.

Due to the natural Hawaiian produce, these sprays expire within two months of opening.

Flavor

Our team are big fans of the flavor of almost all of Hawaiian CBD’s sprays.

Besides the terpenes, which make the biggest difference in flavor, the sweet taste of the Hawaiian honey is noticeable.

The best-tasting sprays to our team was Active and Focus.

They both have a sweet, slightly citrus flavor along with hints of pine.

Relief tastes primarily like eucalyptus due to the eucalyptol terpene.

Relax tastes spicy and herbal.

Effectiveness

The most effective spray to us was Focus.

After taking only a few sprays, Focus gave us the energy and mental alertness that we needed to continue working at peak performance throughout the day.

Active was also helpful for providing energy and uplifting our mood.

Relief helped improve our recovery time slightly.

One team member who had sore shoulder muscles took Relief the day after exercising.

Within 30 minutes of taking five sprays, he noticed a reduction in soreness.

We did not experience noticeable benefits from Relax.

Hawaiian Choice CBD Topical Gel

Concentration

Hawaiian Choice’s CBD Topical Gel contains 200mg of CBD from broad-spectrum hemp extract in 1.5 ounces of product.

At 133.3mg/oz, this topical has a decent concentration of CBD.

The third-party lab test for our particular product showed it had about 180mg total, a 10% difference from the advertised amount, which is disappointing.

There were also no minor cannabinoids detected, which does not necessarily mean that they are not present in the product.

Nevertheless, as a broad-spectrum product, we do expect to see even small traces of minor cannabinoids flashing on third-party results.

Value

The gel costs $49, which clocks in at $0.245/mg.

Considering the price per mg, this is an expensive topical; however, it makes sense when taking a look at the ingredients.

After trying it for ourselves, we understand why Hawaiian Choice charges a premium price.

Hawaiian Choice is also a luxury brand, so it makes sense that their products will be more expensive than the average CBD company.

Again, we adore the packaging from Hawaiian Choice.

The topical comes in a box with an FDA disclaimer, an ingredients list, a QR code, and batch number.

A bamboo lid covers the frosted amber glass container with the gel.

The bottom of the container has instructions for use as well as a batch number.

There are several excellent ingredients in this topical.

Many of them may have benefits for inflammation and pain, the primary effects the topical is advertised to provide.

Texture and Scent

The gel is like a jelly, spreading easily and smoothly across the skin.

Only a small amount is needed to cover a large area.

Due to the menthol, the gel feels soothing and cooling on skin and muscles.

It also smells reminiscent of the tropical islands the gel comes from.

The scent is not overpowering, yet it offers a full sensory experience.

A few moments after applying, the scent will begin to dissipate, but it lightly lingers on the skin for hours.

Effectiveness

Our team found the CBD Topical Gel moderately effective.

We put a small amount of the gel on sore muscles after exercise.

The gel’s cooling sensation soothes tired muscles and keeps soreness at bay for a while.

The CBD Fruit Jellies cost $18.95, which is $0.19/mg and $4.738 per jelly.

The price per mg is somewhat expensive, but the cost per jelly is certainly luxurious.

Hawaiian Choice is a luxury brand, and knowing the high-quality ingredients the brand uses, the price tag is warranted.

We found the jellies to be sweet, tart, easy to chew, and high-quality.

They’re a bit exotic—and unlike any other CBD gummy we’ve ever tried—so they may not suit the palate of everyone.

However, we found them to be an enjoyable treat.

Effectiveness

Our team reported a range of benefits.

Some did not notice many effects from the jellies besides a sense of calm.
