Welcome to our Plus CBD Oil Capsules review!
It’s been a long time since we’ve had the opportunity to review a capsule of this concentration (50mg) from a highly reputable brand, so we felt it prudent to document as much of our experience as possible.
Plus CBD Oil is known for their gimmick-free, science-supported formulations and affordable products, two standards aptly reflected in this product.
Overall, we found these full-spectrum hemp capsules to be effective with just 1-2 servings per day.
Here’s everything we learned from our experience with Plus CBD Oil Maximum Strength Formula capsules.
Hemp extract (aerial plant parts), extra virgin olive oil, vegetarian softgel (modified corn starch, glycerin, carrageenan, sorbitol, & purified water), chlorophyllin.*

As the first company to receive self-affirmed GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status, an FDA designation certifying the safety of individual ingredients/substances, Plus CBD Oil has always been among the elite pack of companies driving industry standards up.
The subsidiary of CV Sciences earned this title by sourcing their hemp from Holland (highly acclaimed for agricultural sustainability and quality standards), extensively testing all products with a third-party lab, transparently sharing these results, and using safe CO2 extraction to pull CBD and other cannabinoids from the hemp plant.
In each category we measure as part of our brand reviews, especially regarding quality, Plus CBD always rides the highest standards.
All this considered, our expectations were fairly high for these 50mg Maximum Strength Formula capsules.
The first thing we noticed in our complete audit of this CBD capsule product line was the breadth of concentration options, many of which overlap to provide more freedom for the customer.
For example, If you want 300mg of CBD total, you can either choose the 60-count bottle of the 5mg capsules or the 30-count bottle of the 10mg capsules.
Here are all the concentrations:
According to the COA for the product we sampled—the 30-count bottle of 50mg capsules—here is the cannabinoid breakdown on a per-capsule basis:
Though the presence of supporting cannabinoids was quite thin (just over 1% of CBD content), Plus CBD did over-deliver on the cannabidiol, and they passed all tests for pesticides, residual solvents, toxins, and heavy metals.
Additionally, the delta-9 THC level kept was well away from the legal limit, making these capsules a great option for anyone looking for a low-THC, full-spectrum product.
The product we sampled retails for $79.99, which translates to $0.05/mg.
Considering the brand behind them, we consider these capsules competitively priced at this concentration.
For some context, the cheapest CBD capsules in the industry range from approximately $0.02/mg to $0.07/mg, giving Plus CBD a spot in that highest tier of affordability.
As expected, price increased at smaller concentrations—here are prices for the other 30-count bottles:
Though the lowest concentration breaks the $0.10/mg cutoff, entering a more average price range, the 10mg and 15mg capsules are still a solid deal.
Our product arrived in a darkly tinted container, which was housed in a small box.
The simple, screw-on lid never hopped the threads, and the neck of the bottle was wide enough to allow quick access to capsules without 30 seconds of awkward finagling.
The label on the bottle contained supplement facts, a QR code for accessing third-party lab reports, ingredients list, warnings, and basic product information.
The box contained all these plus a helpful “CBD Questions & Answers” panel and a blurb about the company itself.
Overall, the packaging ticked all of our boxes for a high-quality product: QR code, durable and easy-to-use packaging, and informative labeling.
Here is the ingredient list for our capsules: Hemp extract (aerial plant parts), extra virgin olive oil, vegetarian softgel (modified corn starch, glycerin, carrageenan, sorbitol, & purified water), chlorophyllin.
This is a very clean ingredient list, and the extra-virgin olive oil brings beneficial compounds like oleuropein and other beneficial plant-based compounds called polyphenols.
This may seem like a moot point in the case of a capsule, but on the contrary—there are two important reasons to care about flavor with a CBD capsule or any other.
First, your tongue will still register any bitter and/or sweet constituents used in the capsule, which can cause a lingering aftertaste, and second (there’s no way to put this discretely), some capsules can bring an unpleasant taste back up after dissolving.
We suspect that the natural sweetener sorbitol is responsible for the slightly sweet “mouthfeel” of these capsules, which was pleasant and non-lingering.
After waiting a full hour and a half, we concluded that there was no bitter aftermath following the capsule’s dissolution.
All in all, any “flavor” was barely noticeable, which is exactly what we want in a capsule.
As mentioned, it only took one capsule to notice results in this case, thanks to the significantly above-average concentration.
As for the results themselves, we noticed a moderate decrease in feelings of nervousness when stressful moments occurred throughout the day.
It was also easier to fall asleep, a benefit that was more pronounced on nights when we made the mistake of watching TV and/or using our smartphones right before bed.
CBD brands are prohibited at this time from making health claims related to their products, but that hasn’t stopped researchers like these from the University of Colorado from affirming its potential for anxiety and sleep issues.
When we took one capsule in the morning, we felt calmer for most of the day, but a second capsule in the afternoon/evening was required to add the benefit of improved time-to-sleep.
All in all, these capsules were as effective as we’d hoped, smoothing out rough edges throughout the day and making work and family time more enjoyable.
Let’s start with the pros:
And now the cons:
Hemp extract (aerial plant parts), extra virgin olive oil, vegetarian softgel (modified corn starch, glycerin, carrageenan, sorbitol, & purified water), chlorophyllin.*
